Hi Nate,

Does this work if I have a IPSF unlocked iPhone?, it is already in 1.1.2 (3.9 Bootloader).

Posted by murrdogg 6 years ago ( 24-Jan-2008 22:04:19 )

i downloaded jb113.dmg but my mac would not run the run_this file....it said "there is no default program to open the document run_thisâ. any suggestions?

Posted by uwmbjn 6 years ago ( 24-Jan-2008 22:17:32 )

i got this to work with IPSF, however edge doesn't work. Anytime i type wap.voicestream.com it doesn't save it. half the time the preferences crash, the other half it just doesn't save it.

Posted by murrdogg 6 years ago ( 24-Jan-2008 22:17:59 )

sorry i figured it out...
if you are having a hard time figuring it out, you need to open a program called terminal which is located in applications/utilites and then drag run_this to that window.

Maps features, such as faux-gps doesn't seem to work. Nor does hybrid mode (only shows satellite view in hybrid). Pin drop does work though.
-Update. I was able to get the hybrid feature to work after holding down Home + Off button (button on top) till the phone reboots. After it rebooted the hybrid function works. To fix the faux-gps, I installed the app called "locateme" from the installer, ran it once. Then the Locate Me feature in Maps started working. So now my 1.1.3 phone is fully functional. I did find that if I restart my phone again by holding down the 2 buttons, I have to re-run the locate me app first to get the faux-gps to start working again.

When I ran Run_This I get:

However, I AM running 1.1.1 with Installer.app

This worked for me with an unlocked iphone (ipsf) on tmobile.

The only problem was activating edge. what you need to do is after you run this process go to settings>general>reset and reset network settings. then you can enter your network apn.

Will the iphone stay unlocked after the firmware upgrade? I have a 1.1.1. unlocked iphone.

Started all over again - all the messages said OK but still have the same error

1) Had to replace the included iPHUC with iphuc-universal to avoid the "Symbol not found: _getopt$UNIX2003".

2) The included vfdecrypt is for i386 macs only. I have a ppc. Tried compiling a new vfdecrypt, but don't seem to have the right source code.

3) The included sdelta3 is also for i386 macs only. Didn't really try to compile one for ppc, since I'm stuck at #2 above.

Doesn't seem this package was really ready for prime time. Looking at some of the comments above about broken ringtones and map features, I guess it's a good thing this didn't work for me.

Posted by severone 6 years ago ( 24-Jan-2008 23:17:40 )

xserve â how did you get the "1.1.3 soft upgrade" to show up on installer again? I got the same error as you

Posted by xserve 6 years ago ( 24-Jan-2008 23:24:44 )

@severone I had to reinstall Community Sources

BUT I have done it all again and still no luck

I even deleted the DEV folder that is created - DELETED the softupgrade Folder, powered down the iPhone and started afresh - same error

I think it's bombed on this 'iPhone - BUT it hasn't caused any real damage as the 'phone still works still Unlocked and still Jailbroken 1.1.2, just not going to 1.1.3

Posted by xserve 6 years ago ( 24-Jan-2008 23:34:44 )

Should also say I am on an Intel MiniMac running 10.5.1
iPhone is 04.02.13_G, 1.1.2(3B48b), SN#7R732*****, Wi-Fi, IMEI all good
and I can still SSH into the iPhone (I use Transmit)

Willing to do any tests if Nate has some ideas

Well, I ended up with dead iPhone. Stuck in the booting Apple logo. So upgrade failed completely.

everything worked fine for me. I have firmware 1.1.3 working. The only problem is all my ringstones are not working? how can i fix this?

Posted by severone 6 years ago ( 24-Jan-2008 23:50:11 )

xserve - leave a lot of extra room. Check if the whole "1.1.3 soft upgrade" (300MB file) is inside the softupgrade folder

OK, after reset now I can set EDGE. Please, bring ringtones back

Posted by xserve 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:03:51 )

for Nate - I had a look at the upgrade.sh

What I found was that it never got to create the timezone directory (mkdir -p /var/db/timezone) - I did a create myself but that didn't make any difference

Posted by spellbound 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:19:19 )

Nevermind. It worked after a reboot.

Posted by plasma 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:20:47 )

@xserve

I had the same problem. Turns out certain 1.1.1 jailbreaks left noexec on the /var partition. Edit your /etc/fstab and remove that mount flag (if its there); reboot; and try again

Posted by xserve 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:23:51 )

trying to run the upgrade.sh script manually gives this error:

# mount -o rw /var
mount: /var: unknown special file or file system.

Maybe the problem?

I was using Terminal from the MAC and doing the commands fromm the root
(BTW this ran fine: #!/var/root/Media/softupgrade/bash)

Posted by spellbound 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:32:11 )

Installation OK. Ringtones don't work... they just won't sound

Posted by xserve 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:32:59 )

@plasma

Looking good - I would never have found that one :) It's saying it's installing - update you soon

Posted by xserve 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:36:36 )

@plasma, @serverone

Yep all good - now running 1.1.3

fstab had a noexec on /private/var

Posted by ambrioig 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:40:52 )

Any news on ringtones fix? Please?

Posted by severone 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:43:11 )

@plasma, @xserve

How exactly should I edit my fstab?

It shows this:

/dev/disk0s1 / hfs rw 0 1
/dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw,noexec 0 2

Posted by numberzz 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:46:03 )

I'm confused by this, what should I do to make it work? xserve... :P

Posted by xserve 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:47:44 )

@severone
since you obviously have fstab open in an editor just remove 'noexec' and the comma so the line should look like this:

/dev/disk0s2/private/var hfs rw 0 2

it works!!
@nate
can you modify your script to do that?

Posted by xserve 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:49:16 )

@numberzz

What is your problem - where did you get to? Are you on a MAC? do you know how to use Terminal?

Posted by juicy 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 00:52:39 )

I just edited my fstab too .. and now it works like a charm. (For the record, I had the same problem as Xserve)
Thnx You guys

Posted by severone 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 01:00:09 )

@plasma, @xserve

it worked here too!!
tks

Thanks everyone who helped out here - In the end we all beat it :)

Take Care guys - now for the wait for the 1.1.2 O.O.B. Unlock (Software please)

Posted by numberzz 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 01:09:19 )

@ Xserve: Yeah I'm on a mac and I do know how do use terminal. I'm having the same "Main Script Execution Failed" problem that the other people are having. It would just be better if there is just one post with all the information for me. Thanks :)

Can't seem to get it working and now I'm starting to get frustrated. Here's the back story;

Downgraded to 1.1.1, jailbroke via http://jailbreakme.com.

Updated to 1.1.2 using http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/site/112jb.html

Ran the 1.1.3 jailbreak after copying the "data" folder and "Run_This" files to the root of my HD.

Here's the output that I got.

Let's start by checking your iPhone. Make sure it's plugged in and press Enter.

You have iPhone version 1.1.2.
Excellent! Your phone qualifies.

If you do not have it, just press Enter to download it.

Installed 1.13 soft upgrade package, iPhone reboots but stays at 1.1.2.

Further examination at /etc/data shows that "113_upgrade_image.bin" is Zero KB.

Also, this is never copied to /private/var/root/Media/softupgrade/.

Any tips on what is going wrong and how to get it working would be much appreciated!

i installed it, then it said the install failed and then it hung so i rebooted it and now it is on an endless cycle of rebooting and displays the connect to itunes image.
How the HELL do i get out of this???!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by shrike 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 01:26:02 )

Well, it's installed on mine, but it's a little buggy...to be expected for an early jailbreak.

1.1.3 running, updated from jailbroke and AnySIMmed 1.1.1.

No Maps locate me
Unable to log onto GMail

A few other bugs, but still fun...

UPDATE: Tried to run vfdecrypt in the Terminal, received following output;

@numberzz - Log into your iPhone (as root)

Navigate into /etc

pico fstab

edit /dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw,noexec 0 2
to: /dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw 0 2

close and save the file

reboot and run the Installer package again and you should be fine

can someone help? thanks

what is "pico fstab"
I cannot edit "dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw,noexec 0 2" because it appears empty after dev/disk0s2
any suggestion? thanks a lot!

@Arturo
You need to find the "fstab" file, inside the /etc folder.
In the "fstab" file, You will find the "dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw ,noexec 0 2"

you have the wrong folder / directory

fstab is in /etc

Posted by achan 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 02:25:15 )

First of all, thank you Nate for the jailbreak, it works great. Got my 1.1.3 working fine. One thing with SSH, since the filesystem is updated, all the ssh file is gone, so one will need to install it again. However, after the upgrade, the Installer.app still think the OpenSSH has installed, and cannot uninstall, (got "Main script execution failed"). So what I did is re-install term-vt100, and vi /var/root/Library/Installer/LocalPackages.plist to remove the OpenSSH entry. So, for any new comer, I will suggest uninstall OpenSSH before you do the upgrade. So, after the update, you can install it without any problem. Thanks.

thank you! it worked, now when I reinstall old apps they won't work... will keep on reading in case someone has a solution for that

Posted by drewsky 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 02:34:06 )

another thing, you can easily update the fstab file with the file manager in iFuntastic, the installer file then works great. BIG GOTCHA THOUGH> Do not use iFuntastic again...stay away it will hose your phone and you will go back and start over again with a restore and you are f*ckd.

I went through all of the steps but during the install of the 1.1.3 soft update, the phone rebooted and went into restore mode.....I didn't read anywhere that this wasn't suppose to happen or else I would have restored back into 1.1.2 instead of letting itunes upgrade my phone to 1.1.3.

NOW I'm stuck with this depressing phone since there is NO WAY to downgrade back and still have a working phone, right?

The main message here is "STATEMENT OF RISK: As all upgrades are risky, this one is doubly so."

Has everyone got so excited they missed this very important message? If you need your phone I'd not risk installing this buggy jail break even knowing some users have had success. It seems more and more users are reporting issues that may not get fixed anytime soon. Ringtones not working is a huge bum!

Hi guys, I've screwed up in a big way. In the FSTAB file, I thought I deleted the coma and the noexec, followed by a reboot. The phone stuck on the Apple logo and wouldn't move. Turns out I've deleted the whole second line in the FSTAB file. I'd restore the whole phone but iTunes won't recognize it and I can't ssh into it. Can anyone think of a way to help me. Thanks in advance guys!

Ok, sorry to bother you with the last post. Who woulda thought you could find things with this new thing they call 'Google'. Amazing. Figured out what DFU Mode was and we're on our way. Great work everyone. Such an amazing community going on here.

I installed everything - no errors. But i can't find the "1.1.3 soft upgrade" anywhere at the installer.app.
Can somebody give me a hint??

Posted by kenadianz 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 07:56:42 )

@macbookdaddy
How did you put it into DFU mode? I've tried a few times but I'm still stuck on the screen with the Apple logo and iTunes won't recognize it.
Pls help me.
Thanks!

Posted by macbookdaddy 6 years ago ( 25-Jan-2008 08:30:43 )

Hey Kenadianz, plug your iPhone into your computer and turn it off (reset off if you have to by holding down the sleep/wake and home buttons). Then start holding both buttons again, and when you see the apple logo, release the sleep/wake and keep holding the home button. It should kick into DFU pretty quickly.

I was running 1.1.1, so I downloaded the firmware for that, and I held the option key when pressing restore in iTunes. That way I was able to select my chosen firmware and restore from there.

Hope that helps.

BTW, after a full restore I got 1.1.3 working, with the usual caveats, including no ringtones.

I have OTB 1.1.2, can jailbreak to 1.1.1 and install the installer app just fine. From there the next step should be plugging into iTunes and updating but since 1.1.3 is out i do not want to go there yet. So does ANYONE know how to update back to 1.1.2 to get it activated???

@xpired from above: " Downgraded to 1.1.1, jailbroke via http://jailbreakme.com.

Updated to 1.1.2 using http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/site/112jb.html "

but when u updated to 1.1.2 did it activate for you? if so how did you do it. ive been stuck for a while now.
PLEASE HELP

@ macbookdaddy

Thanks. It didn't work, but then I plugged it directly into an outlet instead of my Mac and i got the "plug into iTunes" logo.
Am going to try again to get to 1.1.3 - how do I prevent this from happening again? I also thought I deleted the comma and noexec... what did you do differently the 2nd time around?

Thanks,

Let's start by checking your iPhone. Make sure it's plugged in and press Enter.

Checking iPhone version...
You have iPhone version 1.1.2.
Excellent! Your phone qualifies.
Locating 1.1.3 firmware
1.1.3 package not found. If you have it, please copy it to /tmp/data/1.1.3.ipsw and press Enter.
If you do not have it, just press Enter to download it.

Thanks, got it!

Ready to upload the new firmware. Make sure your phone is on and connected, then press Enter.

Uploading image. This will take about 2 minutes...
Done! Now head to Installer.app and install the "1.1.3 soft upgrade" package.

Notice The image upload gets done instantly and after that I ran my 1.1.3 soft upgrade, it got done properly and rebooted with the shiny apple logo but into 1.1.2, do not know whats wrong. I did fstab. Still not working.

Hey guys, I have a question and a comment....

This is the second time for me trying this, the first time i was stuck in a permanent restore mode(where the cable is pointing to itunes) every time i started my phone up. I managed to restore it after about 10 tries.

I downgraded to 1.1.1, where i was before, went to jailbreakme.com, and installed apptapp. When i went to start the process over again, i plugged in my phone and it says it is not jailbroken under ibrick. I DO have apptapp running succesfully and the installation was flawless. I'm stuck. Please help... thanks

TO expired: I had the same issue, I read you think that Nate needs to do a Mac fix? I thought that the run_this was for just mac's to include Power Macs? I have a G5 which is a PPC right? Perhaps I am wrong? There seems to be a hand full on this site that is having the same issues and you and I. Reading all the small things that are not working like ring tones and Map locater maybe it is a good thing this is not working for us? I hear a lot of frustration in those words being written!!
The way I feel right now I just want to update the firmware to 1.13 in ITunes and get it over with! I had my fun in the last 2 months w/this jail broken phone and all the cool icons etc. Anyway I have working on this issue since about 10am this morning and it is 230pm, enough is enough!

hi spellbound, to edit it I use vi. You might want to try or read the basic manual. 'cause it's kind of difference. Here is what to do open vterm in your iphone, (make a copy first in case any problem) and type:

#> vi /var/root/Library/Installer/LocalPackages.plist

after the editior come up. type "/OpenSSH", this will search for OpenSSh, then type "k" until you see the cursor move up to the closest "<dict>" then start hitting "dd", which will delete a single line, now delete it including the next "</dict>". Then type ":wq" that should be it.

BTW, I also have the ringtone issue, anyone has a solution yet ? thanks.

Hey Big-up to Nate and all the guys who worked on this jailbreak, I confirm it works on a OTB 1.1.2 iPhone with Next Sim 2 card running on the Vodafone network here in Australia, the whole process worked seamlessly using OSX 10.5.1 (drag "run_this.exe" file into terminal to launch), and probably only took 15-20 mins. I was able to get locator to work in google maps by installing Navizon. You will have to reinstall OpenSSH and BSD subsystem to gain access to the system files again. Remember macintosh users to delete your old "known host" keys ("command+shift+g" in finder to open the file address tab, followed by the this command "~/.ssh"). You will no longer have the ssh icon on your sprinboard, but your login will still be "root" and your password "alpine" (if you never changed it when you jailbroke 1.1.2) when using an application like fugu to login. Once again, thanks for going live with this soft jailbreak, and not making us wait till the end of february or whenever the dev teams were were going to make us wait too...

I did find that if I restart my phone again by holding down the 2 buttons, I have to re-run the locate me app first to get the faux-gps to start working again.
