Fun news: Downgrading from iPhone 1.1.3 bricks your phone (restrictions apply)

Tags: 1.1.3, brick, dogbutt, iphone
If your iPhone has never been unlocked, downgrading from 1.1.3 will leave you bricked until you upgrade back to 1.1.3, as far as I can tell. The phone (even with an authentic AT&T SIM) reports an Incorrect SIM while iTunes says there's no SIM at all, when you've downgraded back to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 (1.0.x untested).

If your phone was unlocked, the baseband upgrade fails on 1.1.3, so you will not have this problem but will not get 1.1.3 to work.

Obviously this may change once Apple releases the firmware officially but I do not count that as likely.

If all I did to my iPhone was jailbreak it for 3rd party programs, would it brick the phone if i updated to 1.1.3?

slim, no. Jailbreak won't be an issue. However as it stands you will not be able to downgrade from 1.1.3 should you wish to do so.

Nate - I don't quite get this. This has never been possible, ie if you updated from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2, and later downgraded to 1.1.2, you would be stuck with the baseband from the 1.1.2 (ofcourse, unless you choose to downgrade the baseband with bbupdater and the 1.1.2 secpack).

Or, you wouldnt get an actual ERROR doing it - but nevertheless, the iPhone with the SIM was useless if you downgraded a 1.1.2 to 1.1.1. You would never get a signal.

I guess the REALLY interesting thing is if you can extract the secpack from the 1.1.3 firmware and do an actual downgrade of the baseband, just like it was possible with 1.1.2. And, obviously, if 1.1.3 will change anything when it comes to software unlocking 1.1.2 out-of-the-box iPhones.

Hi Nate, great work!! Going back to what Kasper just said, 1.1.1 and 1,1,2 both included brick mode, 1.0.2 didnt. So if you downgrade back to 1.0.2, it should work. Also, the Elite Dev Team created an app that can set brick mode to off, have ya tried that yet??

Hey Nate,
Have you checked if the SteathSim still works after updating to 1.1.3.
Could you, please? I hope you or someone you know has one.
Cheers,
Shawin.

Hi Nate,

I have one of the officially unlocked iphones from france. As you may now these phones dont really like sim cards from outside france. Can you confirm if in the international region format apple have added spain to the list?? Also notice anything that might suggest any spanish mobile network would be accepted unlike on 1.1.2??

Hello,

I was wondering if it would be still possible to downgrade (to 1.1.1), jailbreak, and upgrade (to 1.1.2) an OOB 1.1.2 phone for use with a stealthsim after the 1.1.3 patch gets released as long as the phone is 1.1.2 OOB?

Regards,
Stark.

Hey nate ,
Keep on doing what your doing, awesome! When do you suspect the release on this update? I noticed in the video by you and gearlive that the iphone crashed, but this iphone does that at times anyway. Take care
