natetrueWhen I got my
Kodak V570 dual-lens digital camera, I found the front face to be far too plain. The purpose and look of the camera lends itself well to an 'eye' sort of design, so I hopped on over to eBay to get some
full sheet labels which are just 8.5x11 inch sticky labels.
Then I took a picture of the camera, with the camera, in a mirror. Using photoshop, I un-flipped the image and resized it to exactly the dimensions I measured with a ruler. This left me with a perfect template of what the front of the camera looks like.
In Photoshop I erased the portions of the camera that I'd be laying over with my design. The parts that are left will be what are cut out of the final design. I added an Outer Glow layer style of black, so that the edges of the design would fade to the case color.
I then took a close-up picture of my eye (gross!) and cropped, resized, and messed with the colors.
This is what I printed out onto the sticker paper (if you're using a laser printer, make sure it's set to Label paper!). Add to that a little cutting with an
Xacto knife and the final sticker was ready to apply.
This is how it turned out. I ran over all the edges with a black Sharpie to make sure the edges wouldn't come out white.
It's been 4 weeks and the label is starting to show some signs of wear. It will still look good for another two months, by my estimate. I keep this camera with me at all times, so that's actually pretty durable!
(On another durability note, I decided to add a thin piece of glass on top of the V570's screen, because I was afraid I'd break the otherwise unprotected screen.)
