Clay skull sculpture, Raku fired

All > "Art" > Sculpture > Clay skull sculpture, Raku fired by jesse
I like to call it Skullramic Skullpture ("Ceramic Sculpture" for those with no pun-muscles)

It is Raku fired: dropped into a trash can full of moist newspaper directly from kiln while still glowing. Its "white Craze" glaze cracks (or "crazes") as it cools. The carbon released in the smoke of the burning newspaper soaks into the clay between all of the tiny cracks.

As an artist I try not to take myself too seriously. My art generally reflects my love of fun, play, curiosity, movement, and surrealism. This piece reflects that human physiology is art. Much art can spring just from being human.
Its display pad separates it from its surroundings making it seem more special. (that's why kings sat on thrones)
A profile view reveals more of the anatomical inaccuracies. I created this skull with no reference pictures, just from my memory.

It is about the size, but NOT the proportions, as a seven month fetus's skull.
My signature mark resides on the bottom.

Weird - I don't remember ever seeing that at your place. Where do you hide it?

I don't hide it I keep it on the display shelf in the livingroom with a 15 foot neon arrow pointing directly at it. Additionally there is a man dressed in a red sequined ringmasters tux with a bright purple glitter top-hat standing in a 15,000 watt spotlight constantly announcing its prescence over my in home speaker system. Additionally I send you animated internet invitations everyday to come and look at it. Additionally there is an electroluminescent mural completly covering the exterior of my four story building with a 30 foot tall image of the skull and incandescent letters spelling out that the skull can be seen near the ringmaster in apartment number 11, and the letters are in IMPACT font. Additionally throughtout Seattle there are street wide conveyor belts intersecting all of the places you frequently visit that carry you to the prescence of the skull sculpture at a speed of 40 miles per hour. So I can understand how you may have missed it.

very cool, you should rig up some super small red l.e.d. lights w/battery in the eye cavity for extra f.x.
