Dinosaur Cavalry

All > "Art" > Sculpture > Dinosaur Cavalry by frohickey
This is sculpted from polymer clay and painted with acrylic model paints. Straps and belts were made from fake suede, riveted with the heads of straight pins. Weapons were either cast in resin or made from metals like silver and bronze. The figures of both the rider and the dino were armatured with heavy wire wrapped with aluminum foils to bulk out the basic shapes. Final detailing was done with fine jeweller's chain, beads and a pair of plastic taxidermy-type eyes. The dino and rider stand about 12 inches tall with another 7 for the stand.

Here are the tail spikes up close.
These large shells were cast in resin from a small flashlight bulb.
The bridle was cut from thin strips of fake suede with rivets made from the heads of quilting pins.
Her large-bore gun was cast in resin from an old GI Joe flare pistol.
Her sabre was made from a flattened length of silver wire and the basket is thin bronze wire.
Various other details; saddlebag and bedroll sculpted from polymer clay, hip shield made from the bottom of a soda can, thin jeweller's chain and other bits of stuff.
Shield made from a soda can bottom and a spear from a length of coathanger wire.
Rifle is cast in resin from an old GI Joe rifle, knife is also a resin casting. stirrups are fashioned from fake suede.
The figure and all helmet, glove and shoulder pad details are polymer clay.
The finished piece was eventually used as a cover illustration for a local SF anthology magazine.
