You know when you buy a big bag of assorted Jolly Ranchers, and you set them out in a bowl during a party or something, and at the end of the night all that's left is Cherry and Blue Raspberry?
Of course they taste horrible, so what can you do with them?
The answer to that question involves one of those cheap torch lighters you can grab for $5 in any smoke shop, or online for like $3. I find wholesalelighters.com to be a good source, though eBay works great too.
Apply just enough heat to get the candy melting. If you put too much it will caramelize and burn. The melted candy will stick together (though the bond is by no means very strong).
Once you've got a basic structure in place you can just start melting it away to your heart's content. Try to grow big long melting drops. It's satisfying because if you use too much heat the drop will fall off but if you don't use enough it will not grow.
Also be careful of heating the whole thing too hot, because it will soften and collapse (that happened to me a couple times).
While the sculpture is fun to look at, it won't last forever - the candy will tend to sog and sag over time. So take lots of pictures! Be sure to publish yours here at cre.ations.net if you make one of your own.
