Meccano Steam Car

All > "Art" > Sculpture > Meccano Steam Car by frohickey
When I bought a Mamod steam engine (the smallest, cheapest one they make) about 30 years ago, I somehow found out that they were compatible with Meccano building sets. I thought what a great steam-powered car I could make. I didn't have any Meccano, though and wasn't likely to get any at the time as it was nearly impossible to find in Canada back then. Many years later, I was on a trip to Switzerland and found a toy store that had all kinds of new Meccano sets that had just been released. I bought the biggest and best set in the shop and the first thing I thought of was that I could finally try to build that steam car I wanted to have. Well, after some studying of the materials I had and some planning, I finally built it and it worked just like I hoped it would. (unfortunately, I disassembled it some time ago before I had any access to video so I don't have any footage of the machine in action.)

Man. I do long for my old Erector (TM) set sometimes!

It's a lot more fun to make up stuff than follow the instructions. :)
