Nice plants and Animals

My husband and I spent this Saturday morning at the Florida Botanical Gardens (which we like to call Flogar or Flobot Gar) It was overcast, and ridiculously hot, humid and sweat-inducing, but we had fun and were able to snap some good macro photos of the flowers, plants and mini-animals.

If you're originally from where we are, the pacific northwest, you generally see orchids as flowers that are blooming and pretty when you by them, but then never bloom again. Here in Florida, you can just set them outside, I guess, and they bloom year after year, no maintenance required. Here is a lovely orange and red variety.

Next is a green tree frog perched gently on a banana leaf. I was surprised how sluggish he was, because after I snapped the photo, I poked him and he didn't even jump away. Probably poisonous.

Then, a purple water lily. Beautiful, but boring.

This is the pineapple's good-looking, but less delicious cousin.
Here we have another variety of pond flower that I had to reach out over the water to photograph. It would have been closer up, but I didn't feel like swimming.
The bird of paradise flower is beautiful, but can harm you in different ways.
This is a young incredible hulk fruit. Florida is the main place they harvest those large foam Incredible Hulk Fists.
1-UP mushroom
Another one of those flowers that we needed to reach out over a pond to photograph, hence the wrong point of focus. You get the idea though! Cool pointy white flower ball
This is the "tickle me" plant running rampant as ground cover. It's awesome because it has this little mechanism that closes its leaves quickly when touched, kind of like a venus fly trap, but it's not trying to catch anything. It's trying to minimize its surface area to reduce damage during a heavy rain or hail storm. THE MORE YOU KNOW! (This plant is fun to play with)
Brown anole
This is another variety of passion flower. I published another creation featuring photos of a very similar type of flower. This one has curly edges!
Last, but not least, a big ol' grasshopper or cricket being awesome! Again, I was surprised at how sluggish it was and how close I could get to take the macro shot.
