Paintings & Doors

I use acrylic paint, usually on large canvas. I don't really have a set style but I like things bright.

Red Door detail
These are a couple of doors. I glued cardboard & foam core shapes onto a hollow core door & then using a small pallete knife, I spread gesso over everything working in the fine detail.
It's good to let the gesso set up a little before scratching in the designs.
After the gesso dries hard, I paint the whole thing with poster paint, green in this case. After that dries, I wipe everything down with a wet towel, leaving paint stuck in the design crevasses. The final coat of color is yellow India Ink & then spray a clear coat of weather proofing lacquer.

That door is absolutely beautiful! I love when things are finely detailed like that.

Amazing doors! Do you keep them out for people to see...in a doorway (being used) or something else?

The lady who commissioned them liked the technique but not the colors, she wanted them to look like metal so I did another pair. These two, I put back to back, framed them in koa & made a monolithic screen/divider in my studio.
Thanks for reminding me about the others, I'm going over to her house & take pics of them next week!

I love the weathered look. What great dedication
