Timelapse of Broccoli Rotting with Decay and Mold

Here it is sealed in its glass Brandy Snifter. I realized I was not going to injest the broccoli (from Safeway) when I opened the plastic bag and smelled the nastyness of forgotten veg. It still looked pretty good though and Nate has just handed over his camera, recently published in cre.ations.net as "Turning a broken digital camera into a Time Lapse camera".

And its final shot, its grown a mutton chop of white fuzzy mold and most of it turned to liquid. After 3 days too long of this veg being in the refrigerator it smelled like wine and feces....this timelapse took three weeks and four days! I AM NOT, looking forward to having to clean out the mess!
Here are all the materials I had to shove into the cabinet above my fridge
I wanted to mount the lightbulb in a different spot but I knew that it had to be up front because the condensation created by the heat of decay would obstruct the view of the process. For the most part it worked, the heat from the bulb kept the view through the front of the glass clear.
Here it is all set up ready to go.
I had to coat the camera with black gaff tape its reflections on the glass showed up too much otherwise.
I put aluminium foil up above the bulb so its heat would not cause a fire. Aluminium always acts as a pretty effective heat sink. The bulb raised the temperature in the cabinet to more than 90 degrees, speeding the decay.
From the back with the first door of the cabinet closed.
Set for 3.6 weeks! I had to change the battery in the camera every couple of days (without bumping the view), but I was cool with that because I liked looking at the progress.

And here's the video!

Check out Nate's time lapse camera
Here I am pulling the nasty out of the cupboard!
IT WAS SO NASTY!
Look how the stem of the broccoli looks like the tendons of the alien from "Alien" it was at this point that we first smelled it...it was SICK!
Look closely, pulling it out of the overhead space, the plastic wrap got torn just a LITTLE and it smelled THAT BAD through such a small hole!
I got these gloves from a hospital I worked in recently. They use them when they scrub the instruments after surgery to get all the human fat and AIDSy blood off.
I brought some water to do an initial rinse and some bleach to spray the interior of the container.
Blasted! It really smelled like a dead animal. Brenda thought it smelled like a port-o-potty without the sweet-smelling blue liquid.
Brenda thought it was funny that I made a list of potential ways of disposing of it (I forgot this picture for earlier) because it smelled so much like some kind of exotic nerve gas or chemical.
Finale! The rotten scum...from the bottom!

Here's the video of the disposal:

Jesse, that's amazing! And disgusting at the same time!

I can't wait to see what you do next with my camera.

That was crazy! I didn't know anything could smell so bad that it would ward people away like that. The whole time you were in your house I kept imagining you spilling it and I don't think the smell would have EVER come out. I really enjoyed the time lapse and I think I'm goign to look into it further. Like I'm not quite sure why it turned into a liquid... hmmm?

Haha! Oh, the nastiness! This was delightfully icky. My husband and I cackled through the whole video, we've totally been there. One time, there was this jack-o-lantern, and we kinda forgot about it, and uh, 8 months later, there was this pile of goo, and .... um, there were CREATURES in it.... *shudder* Awesome time-lapse!
