the plan had originally been to get together to hang out and collaborate on a [long overdue] present for a friend of mine. what ended up happening was we got together to hang out and they ended up doing a lot of the work while me and julian kind of sat around and were mildly useless.
we bleached the hoodie, but for the record the lion on the back and the weird emblem thing on the front were there to begin with.

Edit 3/20/08: This creation is now for sale on my new Etsy shop: http://Mellonea.Etsy.com.

I created this from old t-shirts, Cut and sewed into panels that would make a skirt! I sewed them onto a white jersey skirt I already had, that had a stain on it, so sizing wasn't an issue, thankfully, the skirt base already fit me. This is the second article of clothing I've ever used a sewing machine to make, and beings that I used no pattern, it took a lot of mock-ups and eyeballing, and "Just trying it" to get it right. I estimate it took me around 11 hours to make. If I did it again, I think I could do it in more like 5, since I'd know what I was doing...."
Read the rest of this post

Sadly, at the time I made them I used a poor quality iron-on transfer, on a bad color for transferring.(Long story short, the T-Shirts no longer exist.) Feel free to use them if you like. The wolf shirt was done in photoshop, and modified. (A number of different ways in fact.)
I know that the cutout tool may be corny, but i think it turned out nicely, and helps make iron-ons look more "real" so to speak.
And the crazy painter man, was actually doodled on some looseleaf in history class, and scanned after the fact. (Boy was it annoying removing all those little blue lines!) You may notice the backwards thumb, which was a result of me actually paying attention for a short period of time, and becoming absent-minded of the work. I think it adds character. There was, at one point a really nicely colored version of it, but I managed to lose it during a hard-drive format.

Today, the options were orange, black, red, and blue - I suspect orange might get swapped out as it becomes less seasonal.

I cut out three kite-shaped templates from ordinary printer paper and laid them on the shirt, to verify the rough size and shape. I was pleased with the results, so I proceeded to mix up a 50/50 bleach/water solution and spray it on the shirt.

A few things I didn't think of:

- a black shirt doesn't bleach to grey or white. In this case, it ended up orangey-brown. Not terrible, and I should have known better.

- I made something like 25 ounces of bleach solution. That's a lot. The spray bottle warns you not to store bleach in the spray bottle, as it can corrode metal, so I rinsed out my spray bottle with clean water, and stored my solution for my next few shirts in a canning jar.
